Making the most of your time at Global Offshore Wind 2020

A virtual event is not the same as a physical conference. However, with the right mindset and expectations, there is still much to gain from attending an event remotely. In fact, there are even some benefits to enjoy that wouldn’t otherwise be available – such as immersing yourself in the world of offshore wind, without leaving the comfort and convenience of your own home.

With RenewableUK’s Global Offshore Wind 2020 conference and exhibition going online this October, we wanted to help you make the very most of the features available. Here are our top tips for optimising your time at the virtual event:

#1 Book exhibitor meetings in advance

So that you can connect with game-changing companies and individuals from the offshore wind supply chain, you can book virtual meetings. Whether you wish to discover the latest products and technologies, or pick the industry experts’ brains about challenges you’re facing right now, everyone from our Event Partners to our Country Partners, Global Market Partner and general exhibitors will be available throughout the show. Arrange your virtual meeting ahead of time to better organise your diary and ensure you don’t miss out.

#2 Tailor your conference

The full conference programme will be available online well ahead of the event. To tailor your experience and further ensure that your schedule is full with relevant sessions to you, plan your ‘visit’. Knowing which sessions you are most interested in will help ensure that you don’t miss out on important updates, while also allowing you to organise your day.

#3 Interact as much as possible

The key to virtual events is interaction. The more you connect with other people – whether exhibitors, Event Partners, speakers or other delegates – the more you will gain from the experience. Don’t be afraid to ask questions via the live feeds, or to interact with exhibitors whenever you have a question.

#4 Minimise distractions

It can be easy to get distracted when working from home or in an unusual office environment – we understand this completely. To make the most of your three days at Global Offshore Wind 2021, try to limit potential interruptions so you can concentrate as much as you would if you were in the room with the speaker. Something as simple as listening through headphones can help you focus and filter out background noise.

#5 Check your internet connection/speed

For the live sessions to work well, make sure you have a high-quality internet connection. You may need to complete any network or app updates prior to joining to ensure your software is compatible. It might also be a good idea to log into the event one time before your first meeting or session so you can have a look around and familiarise yourself with the format without rushing. If you have any technical issues, the RenewableUK team will be on hand to help throughout.

#6 Add to your delegate pack as you go

Throughout the event, you will have access to various materials, from product brochures to service leaflets and links to useful resources. For many of them, you’ll be able to add them to your delegate pack, where you can view and download the materials for your own use. Add them as you go to make sure you have you everything you need at the end of the three days.
